The Importance of Prayer and Fasting

Why bother ourselves? Why trouble our lives? You do not declare fasting because there’s no food at home. That is not fasting, that is starving. You fast when food is available because you want to focus your eyes on the Lord.

What Do We Benefit From Prayer & Fasting?

Luke 4:1-2,14

Jesus is the Son of God, but He understands that His ministry needs God’s guidance. Jesus decided to begin His ministry through prayer and fasting. Jesus knew He had to be led of His Father and He knew He needed the power of the Holy Ghost to be effective in his ministry. Do you have a call or ministry upon your life? Everything you do as a work of God, you can not do without prayer and fasting. The work of God is aided by God himself, you can not take God out. Without God, it is just you and you will be wearied along the way and give up.

Luke 4:16-18

If you want to be effective in your ministry, in your call, add prayer and fasting (Acts 10:38). Do you want to see healing in your life? Add prayer and fasting. Do you want to see miracles in your ministry? Do you want to deliver people from the oppression of the darkness? Cancel demons? Be a man of prayer and fasting. Demons fear a man of prayer of fasting. We need the power and presence of God to be manifest in our lives. How do we draw the power? Through prayer and fasting. Jesus was as human as ourselves because the Bible says that He hungered. This is the reason the devil tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread. The temptation of food is not a simple temptation but take your ground and know what you’re doing as a child of God.

2 Chronicles 20:2,14, Romans 12:12

We all fear in one way or another. After fearing, what do we do? Jehoshaphat called all of Judah to pray and fast. He knew he needed God’s intervention in that situation. We need such kings in Africa, kings that fear God and know what to do in times of trouble. Invite God into your battles. Jehoshaphat handed over the battle to the Lord through prayer and fasting.

When you pray and fast, your spiritual ears open to the spiritual realm. Your spiritual eyes and ears open to the voice of God. Even Jesus needed the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We die to the flesh through prayer & fasting and our spirit becomes alive and active.

Acts 13:2-12

As we pray and fast, God will empower and separate us. God will guide us and give us specific ministries. Some ministries will not manifest until we begin to pray and fast. Everyone has a call on their life. How do you receive the call? Pray and fast. To understand and fulfil the assignment, you need to pray and fast.

When you pray, you help God accomplish his purpose (Ezekiel 22:30). Malawi needs a revival. How does revival begin? It begins through prayer. Jesus interceded for the world and shed His blood. We also have a part to play, one of them is to pray and fast. God marvels when there is gross injustice, oppression and killing in the land (Isaiah 59:16). God does some things out of mercy, but He needs us to stand in the gap to accomplish his purposes.

Isaiah 58:1-5, 6-9

God instructs us to go help the poor, clothe them, and help the people in this season. When you pray and fast, your healing comes speedily.
