The Power of Blessings (Week 4)

Any decision you make is very critical

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. ‘ Psalms 1:1-2

  • You can make good decisions when God’s Blessing is on your life.

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord , like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. ‘ Genesis 13:10-13

  • Lot made a wrong decision. Sodom was indeed well-watered but it was evil. His uncle Abraham chose a mountainous region.

And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. ‘ Genesis 14:11-12

  • In the well-watered region, Lot was captured together with all he owned. It took his uncle to rescue him. Lot however went back to Sodom after being rescued.

And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. ‘ Genesis 19:6-8

  • The same land that seemed good to Lot had become a snare to the Lord.
  • Lot was willing to give his daughters to the evil men of Sodom to protect his visitors.

You are bound to make wrong decisions when you run away from the Blessing of the Lord. Lot lost his property, his wife and his daughters lay with him because he separated from the Blessing of God.

Lot’s two daughters created enmity. The father of the Moabites and the father of the Ammonites came from Lot’s daughters. Balak who wanted Balaam to pronouce a curse on the Israelites was king of the Moabites.

Joseph made a good decision by refusing to lay with Potiphar’s wife. His decision landed him in prison but it was in prison where he learned to interpret dreams.

The Blessing of the Lord strategically positions you at the right place.

And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. ‘ Genesis 13:14-17

The Lord beautifies you

And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed: ‘ Genesis 27:27

  • You have an attraction towards you before the people when God’s blessing is on you.

You lack no resources for whatsoever you want

Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: ‘ Genesis 27:28

The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. ‘ Deuteronomy 28:12
